Having Enough, Being Enough

One of the courses I teach on poverty defines poverty as” the extent to which an individual does without resources”.  That model includes ten basic resources including: Physical, Spiritual, Emotional, Mental and Financial.  While these are certainly resources that matter as we walk out our life purpose, a bigger truth is that we live in a spiritual world and we are told that “Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.” (James 1:17) There are definitely days when I am challenged to understand and manage the ‘shifting shadows’ of my finances.  I have learned that if I don’t immediately tap into my ‘spiritual’ resources and gifts of prayer, every other resource gets negatively affected in a downward spiral of fear. If I don’t immediately turn to the Spirit of God for help, I might just forget that I can call on my gifts/resources of emotional stability, mental skills like math and my physical gifts of sight, hearing and movement.  The same can happen when I am faced with the shifting shadows of disappointing relationships, aching knees, technical glitches on my website, or whatever shows up to test me to prove God’s truth!  My first job is to remember, moment by moment, Acts 17:28, “For in him we live and move and have our being. As some of your own poets have said, ‘We are his offspring.’”  Today, I urge you to walk in the spirit with me, remembering that we are God’s children and He cares about every little thing that matters to us!
